Donald Trump’s twitter on ”The Border Question” 3:52 PM - Jun 19, 2018:
”Democrats are the problem. They don’t care about crime and want illegal immigrants, no matter how bad they may be, to pour into and infest [my bold] our Country, like MS-13. They can’t win on their terrible policies, so they view them as potential voters!”
Litet lexikon för dagens engelskalektion:
infest = drabba, hemsöka, smitta (om djur på en plats)
rodent = gnagare
infect = infektera, smitta (om virus och bakterier i (människo)kroppen)
vermin = skadedjur, ohyra
Enligt Cambridge Dictionary är to infest bara använt om insekter och andra djur; det ges inga exempel avseende människor:
Exempel: a flea infestation; an infestation of cockroaches/head lice; ants-infested, bug-infested; termite-infested, infested by insects and rodents.
The Cambridge Dictionary only gives examples concerning insects and other animals; the verb 'to infest' is never used there about human beings.
Anti-Jewish propaganda 1940
In the anti-Jewish propaganda film re the “Jewish Question” Der ewige Jude/The Eternal Jew (1940) – a pseudo-documentary in cooperation with the German Propaganda Ministry – the Nazi regime compared Jews to vermin causing disease. One of the film's most infamous sequences compares Jews to rats that carry contagion, flood the continent, and devour precious resources.
In a Nazi pamphlet from 1943, Der Jude als Weltparasit, Jews were described as parasites that infected the lower classes.
Used metaphorically, disgusting thoughts can infest the mind, if we think of the mind as a sort of place and the deplorable thoughts as pests. And corruption and inhumanity can infect an administration, if we think of it or a government as a ‘regulatory body’.
Att underförstått eller indirekt jämställa människor med skade-insekter är för jävligt!
Implicitly or indirectly equating human beings with harmful insects is beyond the pale!
